Another boy… but I enjoyed it! I made this one for my fiances co-worker who was throwing a baby shower. She provided me with a whole bunch of toys and baby stuff to put on the cake (it was so chaotic!), but luckily she told me I could pick and choose what I wanted to use because there was no theme or color scheme. I already had the stuffed animal I ended up using for the cake topper so I grabbed everything else that was similar in color and pulled it all together with green and blue. And this is what I ended up with.
Can you believe another boy!!! Someone have a girl please! I made this diaper cake for my coworker. His bedroom is sports themed so I really wanted the cake to share the same idea. Uhg, went to 5 different stores looking for sports stuff (which I thought was going to be super popular for boys) and ended up buying a little bit from all of them. I lucked out when I found the sports ribbons… that helped relieve some of the stress I was under. Did I mention that I only had one day to make this?
Another holiday, another centerpiece. I used my silk tie-dyed eggs for my Easter centerpiece.
Silk tie-dyed eggs! Before and after…
OK, so this was a long time coming. I made myself a photo board awhile ago and showed my mom. Ever since, she has been asking me to make her one. And being the procrastinator I am… as of yesterday I still hadn’t. Today was the day! I went over to Hancock Fabrics and got some really pretty rose fabric to match her room, some quilt batting, ribbon, crystally buttons, and a painters canvas. AND ta-da!
Happy Birthday to my mommy! On February 15th she turned magic number 29 (wink wink). So, this is the birthday card I made for her. I used a blank card made from recycled paper so it was a little bit multicolored and then stitched around the edges with embroidery thread to add a little texture. I used a butterfly stamp, a glue pad, and glitter to make the butterflies and mounted them with spot dimensionals.
Here are the “candy dishes” I made as Valentines day decorations slash centerpieces for my family craft day! I had some herbs growing in my window, and if you know me then you know I cant keep plants alive very long. So, I dumped out the dead herbs and painted the pots in fun Valentines Day-ie colors (purple, red, pink). I made the cozies using red, pink, and white felt and stitched on cut outs with aqua blue friendship bracelet thread… I think the ACTUAL name for it is embroidery thread. I kind of wish I sprayed the pots with a clear gloss after I painted them but… oh well! So, I attached cozies, filled with candy, and let everyone enjoy!
The result of yet another family craft day! It was my turn to host and I decided to combine the usual family craft day with a StampinUp! party. Although the stamping took up more time than I thought it would and cut into our crafting time, the demonstrator was great and we made some great little projects. Even Makyla (8 years old) got in on the action. She made more afterwards to sell at her student store for tomorrow. Lets see how many Lucky Bucks she gets for them!
The last diaper cake finally made its way to the shower (all the way down stairs to my living room!) I was lucky enough to get some help for the shower from a couple of crafty ladies…one being http://welldonethen.tumblr.com. The diaper cake and candle favors were done by yours truely and everything else by Maria and Alison whose creative genious added so much to the shower.
Well, there’s another baby on the way! This one began very frustrating because my last two diaper cakes have been for boys and I just couldn’t find anything different to do for this one. After roaming around BabiesRUs for about 1/2 hour completely frazzled, I decided that just because its for a boy it doesn’t mean it needs to be blue- especially since his nursery is green. Its not going to match the decor of the babyshower now, BUT I LOVE THIS CAKE! I included a picture without all of the toys because I wanted to show off my favorite part of the cake (the monkey and giraffe print ribbons).
My sorry attempt at gingerbread train decorating. I thought it was going to be so much fun but it ended up being difficult and frustrating. Any suggestions for the rookie?
And one for me! This picture is a better close up so you can tell that, along with the glitter, I used pink flocking powder. This added a little dimension and helped tone down the bling ;)
This was a fun project which I matted and framed to give my mom as a Christmas present. I didnt really get the full frames in the picture but just know they are shabby chic (totally my moms style). I wanted to use my dimensional dots to give the pictures a floating effect on top of the mat but I couldnt find them. So, I improvised with buttons. The actual butterfly pictures themselves are- thank you Martha Stewart- glitter by number! The kit comes with glitter but I swapped them out for colors to match the pinks and greens of my moms room and just used the stencils. This project takes time and a steady hand, but was fun anyway.
These are the ribbon trees I made for my mom and my sister. For each one I used a styrofoam cone, 15 yards of ribbon, a pack of pins, and ALOT of time and patients. Ah, I can feel many more craft projects coming to me as the holidays approach! Do you think there is a craft to make for Black Friday?? Happy Thanksgiving!
